Section A: Project Information
PROJECT NAME: Shanlin Multi-Story Residential Building
PROJECT LOCATION AND ADDRESS: Shanlin, Kaohsiung
BRIEF PROJECT DESCRIPTION: This five-week project is to develop multi-story residential building in Shanlin. This building is on a piece at the base of a mountain. This structure needs to be low cost and prefabricated off-site as much as possible.
PROJECT SCHEDULE / PHASES / MILESTONES:
Section B: Project Process & Tool
Tools for information exchange and discussion: email & Google Drive & FB messenger
Tools for design process: Autodesk Revit(3D architect models), ETABS(structural analysis)
Workflow:
Section C: Project Result
In this project we design 3 models which named Team 9, Team 11 and Team 13 model. Below are the results we got from each model.
Load combination we used in all ETABS models: COMB1 = 1.4(Dead Load + Super Dead Load) COMB2 = 1.2(Dead Load + Super Dead Load) + 1.6 Live Load COMB3 = 1.2(Dead Load + Super Dead Load) + 0.5 Live Load + 1.0 Earthquake Load
Required load:
For the earthquake load we calculated the load for each story according to “Seismic Design Specifications and Commentary of Buildings”(建築物耐震設計規範及解說), The following figure shows the team 13 calculation as an example.

Section D: Lessons Learned & Conclusion
Learn how to use ETABS, both modeling and design in detail.
Learn how to select the structural components of the model in Revit.
Familiar with tools to communicate with others overseas, such as Sococo and emails
Learn how to work with oversea teammates.
Learn the process to design a building.
First time using ETABS to do structural analysis.
Gain experience of working in a global team.
